My newest short story "Twin Engines" is in Black Cat Weekly #217, out today.

Cover of Black Cat Weekly #217

Twin Engines, by Lyle Hopwood

Her escape to New Boston leads to a fateful meeting with a racing legend.

I waited, shivering in the cold, wood-framed store that housed the Levway station office. The expressionless orange mechanoid had the power to deny me my future. "Your ID?" the mech demanded. "ID?" I'd styled my unruly auburn hair, and I wore my black short-sleeved jacket over a white blouse and black skirt. I didn't look indigent, and no one could have flagged me as a runaway -yet. "Hey!" A voice issued from the back office. The store man- ager shuffled to the counter. "It's okay. I've seen her around. Eilina, right?" He smiled, I nodded. "She doesn't need ID." "Orders are orders, Sir," the mech said.
