OK, I give in. It was 40 years ago today . . .

Everyone's pointing out that the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper is 40 years old this weekend.

Most people seem to begin, "It was 40 years ago today Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play," which is complete bollocks. The record says "it was 20 years ago today Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play," so clearly "it was 60 years ago today Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play."

Anyway, if I have to jump on the bandwagon, I'll give you something relatively useful – the URL to a nice website that tells you who all those people on the cover are – the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography site. It only gives you their names, not why they're famous. This is actually part of my cunning plan. If you look them all up on Wikipedia and find out who they all are, and think about it a bit, then you'll actually become one of the sixties generation in a kind of Sapir-Whorf, viral-memey sort of way. Your brain will reform along new lines. Not that being a sixties generation person is the be-all and end-all of civilization, but let's face it, no one who was there can remember it, so having new recruits is the only way to keep on.

Hihi,

You've got the same nick as me >^.-<

I picked this name cuz I used to rescue peromyscus/deer mice from the cats at my dad's friend's property when the cats were chasing them.

I am peromyscus on LJ, FA and DA. *offers one of his outstretched fuzzy little paws to shake* It's nice to meet you.

Hello, Peromyscus! I noticed somebody had the name when I looked at LJ a couple of months ago. I joined LJ under lyle_hopwood instead. I took the name peromyscus because it was my pre-existing email name, and my email address was peromyscus because . . . I used to work as a Medical Technologist with Lyme Disease. I'm sure you've heard about our little mousie's role in that. Plus Deer Mice are cute. Nice to meet you too!

I knew about peromyscus mice carrying the hanta virus, but just now read up on how they can be hosts to ticks which carry lyme disease.

As for the name on lj, well what you could do is call yourself Peromyscus Maniculatus on there or even Peromyscus Californicus since you live in Cali >^.-< If the name Peromyscus is taken, I then call myself Peromyscus Leucopus >^.^<

Also I noticed that you live in Cali. Too bad I didn't know this when I was there last January, else I could have met up with you to grab a slice of pizza :(

Anyway I put up some of my vacation photos from Cali at http://photos.yahoo.com/cheesermousey In there you can find pics of when I was in San Diego, and some photos I took while at a convention in San Jose. I made a black and white rat costume to wear for the convention ^^

Looky here young people, don't for a second believe that "if you can remember the '60s you weren't there" crap. I was there, I've had my share of reefer, hash & booze (booze mostly from the '70s onward, not much in the '60s) & some more stimulating substances, though not more than my share, but unless you drink to black-out level on a regular basis you should still remember. The reefer affects the short-term memory, like "Why did I get up & come in the bedroom, what did I want in here?" not the long term memory. I will admit sometimes I'm not absolutely sure which year something happened (w/in a 2-3 yr. window) but otherwise it's still all there. Of course as we ancients age, it may be another story...what was I..oh, nothing
